Review of the Concert featuring Alan Young at the “South Hampshire Accordion Club”

Event held on Sunday 24th April 2016. Organised by Adrienne Griffiths and held at St Luke’s Church, Hedge End, Southampton – UK.

“What a wonderful afternoon we had. The weather turned out to be quite nice – a bit on the chilly side but at least dry. Alan Young (Isle of Wight) was booked to perform for us and we all, without exception, really had a wonderful time. The music, as expected, was really good. Alan performed in his own inimitable style (relaxed & jolly).

He managed to play something for everyone to enjoy from Accordion Classics to Jazz, French, Scottish, Irish, etc., etc., and he also gave us a song or two.

In addition to Alan’s performance, we were pleased to invite the Accordion Shop from Sunningdale – who came along and displayed a wonderful array of accordions & accessories – everyone enjoyed looking and playing various accordions from the impressive display during the afternoon.

In addition to Alan, we had an unexpected visit from David & Angie Lukins (Uxbridge) who came to listen to Alan’s performance. During the second half of the afternoon, David very kindly agreed to join Alan to perform a couple of numbers (this was magnificent as you can imagine). We are so lucky to have these two such wonderful players in the South of England, who I consider to be my friends.

About 80 people attended, including members & guests, and everyone left the afternoon on a high, having enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of entertainment.

On a personal note, thank you everyone who supported the afternoon and a special thank you to Alan Young, Chris & Julia Lovell (Accordion Shop – Sunningdale) for making our April Club meeting such a very special afternoon.”
