Gubaidulina weekend at the Barbican: 12-14 Jan 2007

Hi UKAO

You may be interested to know that the Barbican http://www.barbican.org.uk/music/series.asp?id=360 has a weekend coming  up entitled "A Journey of the Soul" devoted to the music of Sofia
Gubaidulina.

She’s written lots of wonderful music for the accordion
(bayan), but only one of the concerts (Sunday 8pm) seems to contain
any of it, and Lips will be playing – though immediately before it at
7.30 is a free foyer event entitled "with one accord" described as
the climax of a community project involving musicians from the BBC
Symphony Orchestra, as they give the first performance of a work
inspired by Gubaidulina’s bayan concerto – so if there aren’t any
accordions in that, it will be a poor show.

You can buy single tickets, day passes or weekend passes, but you
only get to hear the composer talk about her work if you buy a
weekend pass (which you have to do by post – other bookings also
available on line or by phone).  I decided to splash out…

Cheers
Neil
