BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION & MUSIC CLUB

FEBUARY 22ND

Monday the 22nd of February was the night that Romano Viazzani was booked as our guest player but at the last moment the plan was switched. Romano very kindly decided to bring along his friend, Mauro Carra to entertain in his place. Mauro was over here for the Eastbourne Festival and Romano was helping him out with a hastily arranged tour. We were very happy to go along with this arrangement as Romero was agreeable to an alternative booking later in the year. Our members were very quickly informed by post and by E mail of the change of plan. If only all our members were on the internet we  could save a bomb on postal charges. The message to them was, 'BOGOF', buy one get one free, because we were getting two world class players for the price of one. This was the message I sent out, urging everyone to bring a friend along to take advantage of this offer. Unfortunately the proximity of the Eastbourne programme clashed with us resulting in quite a few regulars being unable to make it in time. The threat of the weather, the seasonal colds and virus problems also helped reduce the turnout. Nothing however reduced the quality of Mauros' performance and some of our visitors who had not seen or heard him play before were very impressed. Some of them actually went to have a close look at him after I informed them that he had six fingers on his right hand. Mauros' rendering of the Carnival of Venice can only be described as fantastic. Czardas, the accordionist enthusiasts favourite, also featured on Mauros' programme, I loved his rendering of the 'Take the A Train'. Towards the end of the second half of the evenings' programme Romano joined Mauro and they settled down to entertain us with a duet. There were murmurs of approval from the audience when Romano announced that they would play ' Il Silenzio Fuori Ordinanza'. The evening was a remarkable satisfying and successful event and most certainly will encourage our non playing visitors to return.  As all club organisers are aware the cost of running a club can spiral, meeting the expenses of guest players, insurance and renting the clubroom is a challenge. A little fund raising tip, we now run a Tote, people 'throw a pound in the pot' and the winning ticket gets half of the contents. It pays the rent anyway. We are very grateful to our members who turn up with raffle prizes and also make cash donations.

ROSEMARY WRIGHT  will be our guest player on April 28th. For more information contact
