![]() We have Quality Artists for the rest of the year! THE BLACK COUNTRY ACCORDION & MUSIC CLUB
JUNE MEETING
By Lou Ambrose
Monday June 28th. was a night with a difference. We had decided to do something different and it was a success. We held a fish and chip supper and a film (video) show. The aim of this club is to provide entertainment and pleasure for the members and guests and this is what we are achieving. Everything had to be arranged well in advance regarding the meal and with the co-operation of our members we were able to do this. We began the show with a video of Alexander Korbakov which ran for 58 minutes. This went down very well as Barry had provided his professional sound system consisting of two speakers and an amplifier. I brought along a large screen and a projector so we almost had a cinema quality show. The food arrived fresh, hot and on time and everyone tucked into the fish and chips. It is strange that in certain surroundings and circumstances, fish and chips taste delicious. The canteen provided all the extras. As usual the raffle and tote was very well supported. After the meal we settled down to the Caister video. This was a tribute to Malcom Gee. Malcom had sponsored the Caister videos but due to his shock demise the video was never officially released as he had never seen it. A special tribute to Malcom was made by Ron Hawkins at the beginning of the video. The video also showed the late Andy Anderson playing his own composition of 'Angelina'. The whole evening went down very well with many comments of satisfaction from both members and guests alike. This is very encouraging for the hard working committee and even more so for the number of quality raffle prizes which are donated each meeting. Members seem to appreciate the cost of both running the club and paying for the guest artists more than ever, by supporting both the raffle and the tote, even donating their winnings to the club. Travelling expenses seem to be spiralling out of control making it difficult to meet the visiting artists' expenses. We have decided not to increase membership fees or admission fees but to try to attract more members and visitors. In order to do this Barry has booked quality artists for the rest of the year. To add to the variety we have a Jazz band paying us a visit in October, complete with a singer.
