APRIL MEETING

Our guest player was Rosemary Wright but traffic problems delayed her

appearance by 30 minutes or so. A visitor, Tom Helm very kindly stepped

into the breech until Rosemary arrived.

Rosemary began her programme with a lively entrance by playing The

Washington Post which soon set the mood of the evening. She played a

comprehensive selection of tunes, including Petite Fleur and the Intermezzo

from Cavelleria Rusticana, changing accordions in the process. She completed

the first half with Caracole.

The interval is always a lively affair with refreshments being served, the raffle

being drawn and the most interesting feature, drawing the name of the Jackpot

cash prize winner. The charity table top sale was again very busy with a total of

£30 being raised for STARLIGHT, a charity helping dreams come true for very

poorly children.

Alan Young arrived with Rob Beecroft and his trade stand and set the second

half of the show alight with a superb selection of tunes played on Trevor Thomas's

superb Dalappe accordion. Rosemary then continued with her programme

beginning with the Blue Danube and ending with the Douche Ecossaise.

Monday May 24th. sees John Romero paying us a visit whilst for the June

meeting we shall have a FISH & CHIPS supper and a film show.This night is, as

usual open to everyone, BUT, they must book the meal in advance.

The funeral arrangements have now been confirmed and are as follows; Friday 7th May 2010 at 1.30pm Bretby Crematorium, Geary Lane, Bretby, Nr Burton upon Trent, Staffs, DE15 0QE and afterwards at Bretby Conference Centre, Ashby Road, Burton upon Trent, DE15 0YZ We have decided that the service should be a celebration of Dad's life and not a sombre affair and therefore, if you are able to come, please do not feel obliged to wear black if you do not wish to. Dad was a staunch supporter of our Armed Forces, particularly in their current campaign in Iraq and Afghanistan and so, we are having flowers from the immediate family only and if you wish to, donations can be made to 'Help The Heroes' in Dad's memory. Accordion Classes at Morley College London

Morley College - Click Here! As most of you know, Morley College runs two levels of Accordion Classes (Beginners and Intermediate) on Saturday mornings. These were originally taught by Ian Watson and Julie North, then subsequently by John Leslie. A few of you may have heard that John Leslie has now resigned as tutor, and there was therefore a potential question mark over the course continuing this term. However, I am delighted to tell you that Ian and Julie have agreed to step in and take the course just for this term. This gives the college breathing space to make alternative plans for next year. The courses were to have started last Saturday (17 April), running until 12th June, but have moved one week later - so there's still time to enrol!
