Karen Street & Tony Compton will feature in a concert of jazz & standards at the Council Chamber, Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, Essex
February 21st – 12.15 to 1pm.
Tony Compton pursued an accordion career as a gig musician from an early age,he began at the ripe young age of 14 yrs and was performing in the West End of London from 18/19yrs onwards throughout the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s. During his musical career he has also managed to make time to run his own dry cleaning business (to this day) which fitted in conveniently during the 1960’s as he "depped" at weekends (when regular accordionists wanted to play out of town) for top performers such as Woody Ray & Mickey Binneli at prestigious venues such as The London Savoy & Hilton Hotels. He performed with the Southend Philharmonic Orchestra in 1979,"A Concerto for Accordion" written by the French Composer Jean Weiner.
Tony Compton is a jazz session musician and can often be seen around the UK accordion circuit and festivals accompanied by his good friend, the legendary Jack Emblow.
