Announcing Summaries of the 2006 Pilot Scheme and Online Survey

On Friday 15th and Saturday 16th September 2006, 74 volunteers of all ages and
abilities took part in mock graded examinations for fiddle, accordion and
clarsach as part of our Scottish Traditional Music Graded Exams pilot scheme.
Exams took place in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness as well as via
videoconference facilities in Lionacleit, Stornoway and Kirkwall.  The operation
as a whole went very smoothly and an enjoyable time was had by all – we have
even had reports of impromptu ceilidhs in the exam centres’ waiting rooms.

Additionally, our online questionnaire survey of the education sector and the
traditional music community, both in Scotland and overseas, closed at the end of
August with a total of 397 responses.  This is a very respectable result and a
testament to the level of interest shown by teachers, instrumental instructors,
musicians and learners throughout Scotland and abroad.
